BLS and ALS: understanding the distinction

BLS means Basic Life Support. ALS means Advanced Life Support. Texas distinguishes these categories through noninvasive and invasive care respectively. A category name does not describe every service available from a particular provider.

Ask the treating team to communicate the patient’s transport needs to the provider. A scheduled journey can still require clinical planning; “non-emergency” is not a substitute for a care recommendation.

Have the sending contact, receiving location and preferred timing ready. Ask who will answer clinical questions and how the transportation arrangement will be confirmed.
